Petition time!.. This ones about banning cat de-clawing in Canada! (Thanks if youre already in after reading that!) Declawing is banned in 22 countries and its time Canada got on board too and start respecting nature and abolish all practices that inflict this kind of pain and suffering on our furry feline friends, (or any other animals for that matter)! To put this in perspective, take a look at your fingers. Now imagine that someone, your master, decides it’s more convenient for him/her to amputate and have them all pulled out (from the knuckle!) without your consent or understanding… Now imagine having to walk around on the stubs of your fingers for the rest of your days no longer being able to defend yourself from other menacing predators, and being quite disabled in a general sense (as in you cant navigate your environment with the same skill and grace that you once could because your fingers have been ripped out of their sockets!)... Further, imagine having to deal with phantom pain and arthritis much of your life… There is no excuse for this kind of ignorance and cruelty in an educated society that practices democracy in the 21st century, and who upholds the values of tolerance, equality, compassion and empathy. These animals experience pain in the same way that we do (perhaps more acutely because their nerves and senses are more sensitive than ours in certain respects). Just because we cannot communicate with them does not give us the right to assert our power and dominance over them for our own convenience, and in doing so, over-ride the grand design of nature. If people want to have a certain kind of pet, then they must assume full responsibility for it and accept all of the challenges that come with it while dealing with those challenges in the most ethical way, with compassion and tolerance. If you don’t want to deal with training your cat, then get an iguana, hamster, or budgie. Please sign if you care and if you agree! Thanks.
