Pets have become so much more a part of our lives then ever. Couples now go to court over who gets custody of the family pet when they split. That I can grasp. What blows my mind is divorces where one party has to pay doggie-support. Yes send a check every few months to help take care of the old dog. Hey you won the pet in the divorce, you pick up the expense. You want him that bad then insist it earn its keep, teach the pooch how to beg and send him to work the airport with the Hari Krishnas. (Could be a Jerry Springer show?) Sorry if I seem cold hearted. I have a divorced friend who has an arrangement to watch his old dog when she goes on vacation with her new boyfriend. Ive told him more then once. Thats weird. He just shrugs his shoulders and doesnt say much. I know dog is mans best friend, but this is crazy. Being a pet owner has become more labor intensive. Most people with parrots have it written in the will who gets custody of the bird if they die. Those darn parrots outlive most owners. They can live up to ninety years. I watched a friends parrot once. It freaked me out. It talked and gave me the creeps. I was afraid Id say something about its owners and it would repeat it when they came home. (Im old school, if I talk behind your back, I want it to stay behind your back.) Plus the bird tried to bite me. (i wonder if he took offense to my comment about how hed taste grilled) If those things bite you it really hurts. Big time. Its one pet whose squawk is not worse then its bite. I cant afford the stitches. I love animals, it just seems to many care more about their pet then actual people. My daughter has a big dog. We watch it from time to time. (not my choice, but my wifes) Hes actually a nice animal, but every time someone comes to the door, he sprints to it. I tell him, no one it knocking on the door for you. He doesnt listen to me. (like everyone else is my house) I have to say of all dogs, my favorite is the Hot Dog. When I watch one, its usually not long before its gone.
