** Philadelphia Freedoms Australian Open Update ** While all Freedoms players have now been eliminated from the years first Grand Slam, Philly was proud to send SIX members of the 2013 Freedoms to Melbourne plus past Freedoms greats like Lisa Raymond, Patrick Rafter, and Madison Keys! Alison Riske reached at least the 3rd round in singles for the third consecutive Grand Slam, but fell to #9 seed Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-4. Ali and former Freedoms phenom Madison Keys reached the 3rd round in Womens Doubles before falling to #7 seeds Lucie Safarova and Andrea Hlavackova 6-4, 6-3. Liezel Huber also reached the 3rd round of Womens Doubles with partner Hao-Ching Chan, falling there in a tight 3-setter to #4 seeds Květa Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-4. Canadian breakthrough star Eugenie Bouchards (Texas Wild) breakthrough singles runforced her to withdraw from the Mixed Doubles draw... Which means that Thunder from Down Under Sam Groth is out of Mixed Doubles too, unfortunately for Sam and Freedoms fans.
