Philosophy and an African culture-Kwasi Wiredu: If African - TopicsExpress

Philosophy and an African culture-Kwasi Wiredu: If African philosophy mean traditional African philosophy, as surprisingly many seem to think, then we can forget any pretence of modern philosophising. In most parts of African we would have, in that case, to abstain from such disciplines as symbolic logic and its philosophical interpretation; the philosophy of mathematics and of the natural and social sciences, the theory of knowledge associated with the foregoing disciplines and the moral, political and social philosophy which has arisen as a response to the needs of modern times. We would have to regard all such disciplines as un-African and content ourselves with repeating the proverbs abd folk conceptions of our forefathers. According to Wiredu the above notion is surfaced by three complaints that are said to afflict the society-culture: anachronism, authoritarianism and supernaturalism. Thus, brothers, comrades and friends, I wish to ask, rather be delineated on the former to my concern of dismay in/with the future or essence of philosophy to our fellow continent and people. For development and/or civilization how impactious can philosophy contribute to our people?!
