Phoenix Reading Series @ The Upright Brew Sunday, February 1, 2014 4-6 pm 547 Hudson Street NY, NY 10014 212-810-9944 MICHEAL DORR, YUYUTSU SHARMA, BRUCE WEBER, JOANNE PAGANO WEBER, & OPEN READING MICHAEL DORR is a poet, writer, editor, educator, former publisher, founder of the literary agency LitPub, Ink, and a one-time grave digger. His poetry has been praised as oracular and rhapsodic by Samuel Menashe and as finely cut diamonds of wit and power by Paul Oppenheimer. He is currently finalizing his first collection of poetry, Drunk with Thirst. Yuyutsu RD Sharma has published nine poetry collections including, Milarepa’s Bones, 33 New Poems, (Nirala, New Delhi 2012), Nepal Trilogy, Photographs and Poetry on Annapurna, Everest, Helambu & Langtang (Nepal-Trilogy.de, Epsilonmedia, Karlsruhe, 2010), a 900-page book with renowned German photographer, Andreas Stimm, Space Cake, Amsterdam, & Other Poems from Europe and America, (2009, Indian reprint 2014) and Annapurna Poems, 2008, Reprint, 2012). Yuyutsu also brought out a translation of Irish poet Cathal O’ Searcaigh poetry in Nepali in a bilingual collection entitled, Kathmandu: Poems, Selected and New (2006) and a translation of Hebrew poet Ronny Someck’s poetry in Nepali in a bilingual edition, Baghdad, February 1991 & Other Poems. He has translated and edited several anthologies of contemporary Nepali poetry in English and launched a literary movement, Kathya Kayakalpa (Content Metamorphosis) in Nepali poetry. His works have appeared in Poetry Review, Chanrdrabhaga, Sodobnost, Amsterdam Weekly, Indian Literature, Irish Pages, Delo, Modern Poetry in Translation, Exiled Ink, Iton77, Little Magazine, The Telegraph, Indian Express and Asiaweek. The Library of Congress has nominated his recent book of Nepali translations entitled Roaring Recitals; Five Nepali Poets as Best Book of the Year 2001 from Asia under the Program, A World of Books International Perspectives. Yuyutsu’s own work has been translated into German, French, Italian, Slovenian, Hebrew, Spanish and Dutch. He just published his nonfiction, Annapurnas & Stains of Blood: Life, Travel and Writing a Page of Snow, (Nirala, 2010). He edits Pratik, A Magazine of Contemporary Writing and contributes literary columns to Nepal’s leading daily, The Himalayan Times. He was at the Poetry Parnassus Festival organized to celebrate London Olympics 2012 where he represented Nepal and India. Currently, he is in New York as a Visiting Poet at New York University. His work has appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies, including Up is Up, But So Is Down: Downtown Writings, 1978-1992 (New York: New York University, 2006), and Riverine: An Anthology of Hudson Valley Writers (New Paltz, New York: Codhill Press, 2007). He has performed regularly with his performance group, the No Chance Ensemble, which has produced the CD Let’s Dine Like Jack Johnson Tonight (members.aol/com/ncensemble). He is the producer of the long running Alternative New Year’s Day Spoken Word/Performance Extravaganza. By day, Bruce is Senior Curator at the National Academy Museum, and splits time between homes in New York City and Saugerties, New York. Joanne Pagano Weber is a visual artist, a writer, and educator. In recent years she has collaborated with the sculptor Janice Mauro on cross-disciplinary installations, including text, which combine humor and social critique concerning the ramifications of global warming. She exhibits at Art 101 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and teaches Fine Art at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in The Bronx, New York, and at Union County College in Cranford, New Jersey. Michael Graves is the author of Adam and Cain (Black Buzzard, 2006), In Fragility (Black Buzzard, 2011) and two chapbooks, Illegal Border Crosser (Cervana Barva, 2008) and Outside St. Jude’s (R. E. M. Press, 1990). In two thousand four (2004), he received a grant from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation. Thirteen (13) of his poems appear in the James Joyce Quarterly. He has published scholarly, critical work on James Wright and organized a conference on Mr. Wright at Poets House in 2004.
