Photographer LOOSES wedding photos to TWO weddings!! Yup, it happened to a budding wedding photographer in Vancouver earlier this week. Since then, Ive been asked several times how I prevent this from happening to me - so Im sharing my backup process. It starts the very moment I take my first image as I shoot weddings on two cards simultaneously. Earlier in the year I had a concern they werent writing fast as Id like so Ive purchased some of the fastest cards on the market (SanDisk 32GB Extreme Pro - 160MB/s). Now if one card fails, I still have another card with all the images right in the camera. Then as soon as I get home after the wedding, I dump all the images on the computer and quickly look at them though Photo Mechanic and verify all is good, flag some teasers, initiate the backup process and head to bed. My backup is a 10TB Drobo (also protected against data loss as if a drive in it fails by writing data redundantly over multiple drives in the unit) and is also located in another part of the house in the basement in case of a breakin or fire. Losing a brides photos would be heartbreaking for me. Devastating. So for those whove booked me or are thinking of booking me, take comfort knowing your images are very safe and secure. If any new photographers are reading this post, please take the same precautions...or you may wind up like that poor wedding photographer in Vancouver; theprovince/news/Wedding+photographer+loses+laptop+with+thousands+images/10070316/story.html
