Photography terms defined: HDR Photography - This refers to the techniques of processing an image where the entire range of shadow to highlight details all are fully captured, usually (but not always) done with multiple bracketed exposures and then merge processed to produce a final, single image. Hence, HDR is an abbreviation for the term High Dynamic Range. The bracketed exposures are done with various levels of under and over the ideal normal exposure for the image depending on the desired coverage of the dynamic range for the shot. Some HDR can be done with anything from a single image, to as many as 7 (or more, though more than 7 is rare) exposures. By shooting for full shadow and highlight detail, you can bring out things you would never see in the standard image capture. Further, you can process the resultant image with yet additional effects. Attached is a sample of an HDR image taken by me that has further been processed as b&w of a flower bud, and another of a train car I took in Colorado. Note the level of detail evident in the textures, including the clouds.
