Photomaps Track-by-Track | Track 6: A Song About Us The kickoff for Side B, A Song About Us, was actually the first track recorded, albeit unknowingly, for Photomaps. We booked studio time in early-Spring 2012 with producer Salim Nourallah to track a cut for Hand Drawn Records first compilation and honestly, this was the only new song we had at the time. We were in-between drummers at the time and had a great fill-in with our friend Jody McCauley. Our fifth record, Townies had only been out for a couple months by then, so without much time to write new material our guitarist, Aaron Borden, came to the table with virtually the entire piece written. If I remember correctly, the band only rehearsed A Song About Us a couple of times before recording it. The cut is super straight-forward with just a couple of overdubs, and thankfully we had our good friend, James Villa Photography there to capture the session on video. Nourallahs studio is full of 60s panache, and it made for a great session, and aesthetically, a beautiful video. Although it had already been released, we decided to repurpose this song for Photomaps because, well, it sounds awesome. -Blocker youtu.be/xaI5xP3K9TM
