Php 1:2-Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Pauls familiar greeting in all of his letters. It is a wonderful combination of grace and peace and denotes they must come from God. Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary adds-...The very form of this salutation implies the union of Jew, Greek, and Roman. The Greek salutation was “joy” (chairein), akin to the Greek for “grace” (charis). The Roman was “health,” the intermediate term between grace and peace. The Hebrew was “peace,” including both temporal and spiritual prosperity. Grace must come first if we are to have true peace... We know that grace is Gods unmerited favor, and peace is a special gift from Jesus.(John 14:27). These both must come from God. It was Gods grace that brought us the gift of His Son. Only in Jesus can we find peace. Pulpit Commentary adds-...God the Father is the first Author of our salvation; God the Son, the Word made flesh, brought the message of peace from heaven, and reconciled us to God... It is by grace that we are saved.(Eph. 2:8). When we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we receive His peace. Look at Rom 5:1-Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you know Gods grace? Do you know the peace of Jesus? You can today! What a great privilege to know Gods grace and be filled with His peace. Hallelujah!
