Picking up from my last statues about the “Preamble” of the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. In the first 2 sentences it say, “Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world. Knowing the definition of the words used, you can translate it to; Taking into consideration the facts and recognizing the existence of the permanent essentials, honorable status, nondiscriminatory and Unchangeable rights of the members of the human family are the underlining basis and principles of freedom, justice, and peace in the world. (Whereas): Taking into consideration; (Recognition) Recognizing the existence of; (Inherent) Permanent Essentials; (Dignity) Honorable Status; (Equal) Nondiscriminatory; (Inalienable) Unchangeable; (Foundation) Underlining Basis and Principles And that is only 2 sentences. They are pretty much self-explanatory and yet holds powerful meaning and purpose. Although if you don’t know the meaning of the words used you can misunderstand what is being said. Try to look up the words and translate them best understood to you. Feel free to leave a comment on what you think about the first two sentences and how you would translate them. Inherent – 1. existing in something as a permanent, essential, or characteristic attribute. 2. vested in (someone) as a right or privilege. Dignity – 1. the state or quality of being worthy of honor or respect. 2. a composed or serious manner or style. 3. a sense of pride in oneself; self-respect. 4. a high or honorable rank or position. Equal – 1. (of people) having the same status, rights, or opportunities. uniform in application or effect; without discrimination on any grounds. 2. evenly or fairly balanced. 3. having the ability or resources to meet (a challenge). 4. a person or thing considered to be the same as another in status or quality. Inalienable – 1. unable to be taken away from or given away by the possessor. freedom of religion, the most inalienable of all human rights Rights – 1. that which is morally correct, just, or honorable. 2. a moral or legal entitlement to have or obtain something or to act in a certain way. 3. the authority to perform, publish, film, or televise a particular work, event, etc. 4. a grouping or political party favoring conservative views and supporting capitalist economic principles. 5. restore to a normal or upright position. 6. restore to a normal or correct condition or situation. 7. redress or rectify (a wrong or mistaken action). 8. make reparation to (someone) for a wrong done to them. Human – 1. of, relating to, or characteristic of people or human beings. 2. of or characteristic of people as opposed to God or animals or machines, especially in being susceptible to weaknesses. 3. of or characteristic of peoples better qualities, such as kindness or sensitivity. 4. a human being, especially a person as distinguished from an animal or (in science fiction) an alien. Family – 1. all the descendants of a common ancestor. 2. a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. 3. a group of people related to one another by blood or marriage. 4. the children of a person or couple. 5. a person or people related to one and so to be treated with a special loyalty or intimacy. 6. all the languages ultimately derived from a particular early language, regarded as a group. Foundation – 1. an underlying basis or principle for something. 2. justification or reason. 3. the action of establishing an institution or organization on a permanent basis, especially with an endowment. Freedom – 1. the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. 2. absence of subjection to foreign domination or despotic government. 3. the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. 4. the state of being physically unrestricted and able to move easily. 5. the state of not being subject to or affected by (a particular undesirable thing). 6. the power of self-determination attributed to the will; the quality of being independent of fate or necessity. 7. unrestricted use of something. 8. familiarity or openness in speech or behavior. Justice – 1. just behavior or treatment. 2. the quality of being fair and reasonable. 3. the administration of the law or authority in maintaining this. 4. the personification of justice, usually a blindfolded woman holding scales and a sword. Peace – 1. freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility. 2. freedom from or the cessation of war or violence. 3. a treaty agreeing to the cessation of war between warring states. 4. freedom from civil disorder. 5. freedom from dispute or dissension between individuals or groups. 6. a ceremonial handshake or kiss exchanged during a service in some churches (now usually only in the Eucharist), symbolizing Christian love and unity.
