Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania public schools provide free lunches to all students, regardless of ability to pay. Dallas Independent School District is also providing free food to its students, once again, regardless of income. Seven districts in Maine have also chosen to provide free meals, as has the Philadelphia School district in Pennsylvania. Call it socialism, if you will. Mutter something about “bootstraps” if you want, but no child should ever be denied a meal for any reason. Perhaps this is an approach all schools across the nation should consider. Forget “No Child Left Behind” (not that you’d want to remember it) — Why don’t we implement “No Child Left Hungry?”
