Plan to erect wind turbine near Gwynedd area of natural beauty rejected Nov 04, 2014 , By Eryl Crump Councillors throw out scheme to erect 67 metre tall structure on Llyn Peninsula Controversial plans to erect a wind turbine at Llanaelhaearn near Pwllheli have been rejected. The application had been for a 67 metre (219ft) wind turbine close to an area of outstanding natural beauty and had attracted a large number of objections. Supporters had claimed the turbine could generate nearly £3 million profit over 20 years for the community. But opponents claimed the feature, which would have been taller than the Leaning Tower of Pisa, was completely out of keeping with the surrounding landscape. Council planning officials agreed and recommended refusing the proposal. Gwynedd Council’s planning committee, meeting in Caernarfon yesterday, followed their advice and rejected the application. After the meeting, Carl Clowes from Antur Aelhaearn, the firm behind the project, said an appeal would be lodged with the Welsh Government. A report to the committee noted the site would have a “substantial detrimental impact on the open nature of the area and on the prominent and special views into, out of and across the AONB and the Llyn and Bardsey Island Landscape of Outstanding Historical Interest. It would also have a detrimental impact on the setting of several scheduled ancient monuments in the area and possibly on archaeological remains. Both Natural Resources Wales and historic monuments charity Cadw had objected to the scheme. dailypost.co.uk/news/local-news/plan-erect-wind-turbine-near-8045127
