Platforms and the campaign promises aside I felt that it is important that I outline the role of municipal council members. There are 3 major roles: 1) Representative - representing their constituents (looking after the best interests of people in the community) yet remembering that their votes on issues must ultimately serve the greater good of the community. 2) Setting Policy - making decisions but understand that there are limits to the power of municipal council as determined by provincial and federal legislation. 3) Administrative - ensuring the right people are doing the right things at the right time. Council ensure that its policies and directions for implementation are carried out properly by staff. Council must make numerous types of decisions. Regardless of the type of decision the decisions are made as a group which emphasizes the need for effecttive working relationships. Every day now I meet folks around town who let me know that I have their support in the upcoming. Some folks I know well, many I may have only met briefly and some I am meeting for the first time. I thank you all equally for your support.
