Player may face serious sanctions from the club Liverpool are expected to demand answers from want-away striker Luis Suarez when he returns from the Confederations Cup, over claims the Uruguayan has been negotiating with Real Madrid without the Premier League club’s permission. The story has emerged in Spanish newspaper Marca, which is known to have very strong links with the Bernabeu giants. The report suggests that Suarez’s representatives have been talking to Madrid over personal terms on a potential move for the past few weeks. The Merseyside club say they have received no formal transfer request from their striker and insist they have not had any official offers from Madrid or any other club. If, as is widely expected, Liverpool do reluctantly decide to let Suarez go the club are determined to do so under their own terms and will certainly not be bullied by the demands of the player. Suarez remains on national duty until next week, with Uruguay set for the third/fourth play-off on Sunday having been beaten by hosts Brazil in the semi-finals on Wednesday night. If the allegations were found to be true, Suarez could be in breach of his Liverpool contract and face serious sanctions from the club – Suarez has made no secret of his desire to quit the Premier League this summer, but Liverpool stand firm that the player is not for sale.
