**Please Help Us Raise The Funds for Kias Eye Surgery** Meet Kia ! She was a little stray booked in to East Valley Animal Shelter and Kyle Schwab I pulled her out. She has a unilateral cherry eye prolapse. For those that dont know what cherry eye is, it is the duct or gland that makes tears and lubricates the eye. Because we focus on bully breeds and brachycephalic type dogs, we see this disorder more often then with longer muzzled dogs. Little Kia is Pug mix, so its quite common in her breed. The two corrections for cherry eye is to either cut it out or tuck it. Vets who choose to cut it out leave the dog with no tear production, leading to KCS and dry eye, and eventually blindness. I use Dr. Stern at Five Star Vet in Sylmar for all my cherry eye corrections. Dr Stern uses the more humane and advanced technique of making a tiny incision in the gland and tucking it back into place with dissolvable sutures. The dog is then put on crate rest for two weeks so she cant play or bump the area while the sutures take. After that, the dog has 100% normal tear production and is ready to adopt. I personally have 6 or 7 of my Neos that have been tucked, all with no issues, and one Neo who had hers cut out prior to me rescuing me her, and at six years of age is only partially sited. This is the ONLY correct and humane option for dogs that enter into Smashface Rescue or Park-a-Mutt. **On a side note, the shelter called us the day after we pulled Kia, and told us they had a dog impounded with consecutive A numbers and thought she might be her sister. We did not see her because she was booked into medical and back in iso. When we went to pull her, she was actually giving birth and we pulled her and the one day old pups the next day. She had Kennel Cough from the shelter that she passed onto all the pups, but with a combination of mommy on antibiotics with the babies get through nursing and her colostrum, they have all made it. We will post them in a separate post, because they dont need any fundraising. Just forever homes. fnd.us/c/0obP8/sh/a2syP7
