Please SHARE for a FOREVER HOME for Dodger II! DONATIONS are needed towards Dodger IIs veterinary expenses! Donation Link: TFPF.org The Fuzzy Pet Foundation - (TFPF) posted Dodger IIs story last month when we rescued him from a horribly abusive home. Dodger IIs original owner met the love of his life, and he dropped off Dodger II at a random strangers house for good. While this owner was starting a brand new chapter in life, Dodger IIs life was going downhill. Dodger II was left outside in the yard 24/7, and was constantly being spanked for making even the slightest noise. After a few days in our care, Dodger II began showing symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. He was given immediate veterinary care, but for some odd reason, he kept losing weight, falling down, and was soon exhibiting neurological signs. Our biggest fear came true when we learned that Dodger II tested positive for distemper, a highly contagious viral disease that is incurable, often fatal. It is a multisystemic disease that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. Only five percent of the dogs who contract distemper recover from it, but they are often left with persistent nervous muscular twitches (chorea) and recurrent seizures. Given the fact that Dodger II was a strong candidate for supportive care (there is no cure for distemper), TFPF opted not to euthanize him. We continued to provide him with IV fluids and vitamins, and quite miraculously, he SURVIVED! He never had any painful seizures during his treatment. Our vets assure us that Dodger II will be able to live out a normal life, but as mentioned above, he is a distemper survivor who is left with persistent nervous muscular twitches (chorea). His distemper is no longer contagious, and he now walks, runs, eats, and goes to the bathroom just like any normal dog. TFPF is raising funds to cover Dodger IIs entire month of ICU treatment. This was a very costly rescue mission for us, but it was all worth it. We are also hoping to find a special home for him where he can thrive and be loved. Please take a moment to SHARE his story.
