Please do not ignore, its a long read but it will certainly change the way you think. Im not in favor of Taliban, in fact Ive been against them ever since I can remember. Nothing makes me more happy when I see that our people are finally united against them but I still have minor issues with how we are going to deal with them. Why? Because while youre just against Taliban Im against the very idea of extremism. Im not against fighting for peace. Right now war is the only plausible solution but war alone is not going to help. If we really want to solve this problem, we have to understand how the ideology of Talibanization works. How is an innocent little kid turned into a monster? Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy recently hosted a talk at TEDx where she shared her interview with an actual student of the Taliban, a future suicide bomber. The children who are trained to kill are poor, they have no resources, they are cut off from the world. They dont understand the luxuries this world can provide them, theyre only taught to hate this world. They are shown countless videos of people dying by the hands of Pakistani army, drone strikes, the hangings and such. They learn to recognize Pakistani government and the people as their worst enemies. They are taught that to fix this shaitani government, they have to do Jihad against it. They are promised that the next world is going to be much better. Who wouldnt want to get out of this horrible world and live an eternity in heaven? According to a report conducted by Amnesty International titled Will I be Next the rate of innocent people killed vs terrorist killed is 10 to 1. It means that 10 innocent people are killed in killing one terrorist. As long as innocent people keep dying and as long as justice and education are not made a priority alongside war, someone will keep exploiting the young minds. While we have to fight the leadership of Taliban, we have to make the young recruits and people of effected areas understand that world is not a terrible place, were not the evil people they are made to think we are. We have to break down this ideology to the very core. If you want to imagine how easy it is to exploit someone who has suffered an emotional trauma, take a moment and remember the faces of innocent kids who were murdered by Taliban. Would you not pick up a gun and kill every single one of them? Thats exactly how they make their fighters feel about us. Together, we can fight this disease, together we can beat them but only if we start behaving like the the civilized people. We have to fight their ideology at the very basic level.
