Please enjoy this look back at the beauty and the hope of the city of Detroit. After leading the Fenians in Port Huron, Colonel John Atkinson made his home there, practiced law, spent his summers with his family on their private island he called Bois Blanc. (Today we call it Boblo Island.) And while he was busy changing the landscape of the city and building railroads between Detroit and Lansing he built a long winding dirt road in the wilderness on the outskirts of town. Folks mocked him and called it Colonel Johns Folly but today we call it by his name for his dream of a great city ~ Grand Boulevard.
