Please help! For years now, generations of woodchucks have been living in a pile of old logs on the grassy lot next to our home. They raise 1-2 litters each spring and summer and we get to know the kittens well. If you follow my writing youve probably read a few articles about them. Recently the lot was sold and a spec builder quickly marked off the land for a house and big septic system. Last night they dropped off this backhoe and told us excavation begins Monday morning!! We have no idea how many animals are living in what we call the woodchuck condo right now, but the site is scheduled to be dug up in the morning. Were not sure what to do to protect the animals and we got very little notice. Our best idea is to try to move the logs around today to disrupt their home enough to get them out before the digging begins tomorrow. My mom told me that the Department of Environmental Management is supposed to help with things like that, but they wont even be open before the digging starts. Open to any ideas, advice, even help moving logs!! Locals, we live in Common Fence Point in Portsmouth. Thank you!! x
