Please read..important information *****A Very Important NAPS (Neighbors Against Pawn Shop) Update***** Today a small group met with the Pawn Shop Owner and her lawyer. The outcome is: The Pawn Shop owner is planning on moving forward with pursuing all the necessary "special exception variances" that are needed to open her business on 1391 Jersulam Ave as soon as she is able to. What this means for us here in Merrick (and surrounding towns) is we have our work cut out for us. There will be a number of extremely important meetings that you will be asked to atend, the first one is next week: Thursday, August 1, 2013 North Merrick Library @ 7pm This meeting will be addressing two issues, 1. Informational (where we are we so far, where are we going) 2. Canvassing the neighborhood with the Stop the Pawn Shop letter. (We need volunteers to canvas a block and ask neighbors to sign letters, which will be then sent to the Town Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals) Dave Deneberg, Our Legal Represenative(s) as well as Claudia Borecky Merrick/ North Merrick Civic Associtaion President will address the crowd I can say with 100% certainty that the letters that were signed helped us to get the much needed extension to the September 12th hearing date. BUT we need more letters to be signed and we need the People Power to make that happen! I cannot express enough how much that “People Power” will make a difference in this case. If you don’t feel that Estate Pawn Brokers is the right business for our neighborhood…it is so important that we all come together!
