Please read the FULL description before contacting me with any questions. TEARNA-6 year old Friesian/TB mare, approximately 15h. Dark chestnut with slight rabicano ticking throughout her body. Her sire, Alternative’s Shaman, is a 16 ½h Friesian/TB (registered with the American Warmblood Society) and is on site for you to meet. Shaman has worked as a mounted police horse in the past, but is currently my primary dressage horse. Her dam, Babe of Fire (a.k.a. Kizzy), was a 16.2h Jockey Club TB mare who passed away a few years after Tearna was born. Kizzy started out on the track, then began her post racing careers as a mounted unit horse with a Florida unit, as well as schooling up to 3rd level dressage. Tearna was Kizzy’s last foal. Tearna was injured as a weanling after getting tangled in a neighbor’s barbed wire fence. Her injuries kept her from attending her AWS inspections, but she is eligible to be registered. There is some residual scarring from the injuries, but its cosmetic only, she healed completely sound. Tearna went through months of medical treatment consisting of daily shots, and debridement and bandaging of her wounds. During that early phase of life she didn’t develop a positive view of humans which caused her to be very pushy and disrespectful as well as developing a strong flight/fight reflex. It took her almost a year to recover physically, then her owner elected to give her another year put out to pasture to relax and become a horse again. I originally began working with Tearna for her owner when she was a late 3-early 4 year old to establish some basic ground work and respect. She was a quick leaner who progressed nicely and had a good start when I returned her. Her owner (also her breeder), who recently passed away, had serious health problems that prohibited her from continuing Tearnas training and she was never started under saddle. After Tearna’s owner passed away, she came to me and I began refreshing her prior training. Tearna is a sensitive, athletic, mare who needs a knowledgeable, confident handler. All basic ground work has been reestablished: she stands tied (usually quietly, but sometimes a little impatiently), loves being groomed, bathes, picks up her feet, loads, and is easy to catch out of the pasture. There are some areas that we’re still working on, such as clipping and she’s still a little guarded about her feet with the farrier, but gets better every time. I have started general desensitizing work since shes been back with me, (stick and string, tarps, light obstacle work, etc...) as well as yielding to pressure (HQ & FQ) and lunging. Tearnas been lightly introduced to a saddle and bridle and is ready for a job. She has an extremely friendly and sweet temperament, but when stressed or over-faced she’ll revert back into her flight/fight and pushy mode which is why I feel she needs a knowledgeable horse person to further her training. She is not at all mean or aggressive, nor is she particularly spooky considering her limited experience. Tearna has very nice movement and should prove to be a lovely dressage or hunter prospect. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a limited budget looking for a quality horse. A great home is a must for this mare and I will only sell her to suitable person! $1,500 OBO Located in Gadsden, AL
