The situation has reached critical! Dear Rescue Advocates, A fellow animal rescuer and friend, April Rosenthal, learned she had Stage 1, yet aggressive, esophageal cancer in May. On June 17th, she underwent a radical surgery to stop its spread, having most of her stomach and esophagus removed as well as some lymph nodes. While the surgery was a success, underlying health problems have made her recovery a tenuous one, and today (August 7th), she is STILL IN LONG-TERM ACUTE CARE, and it will be many weeks, if not months, until she can return home, if she will be able to at all. She was supposed to have returned home FOR GOOD on July 1. I am her medical and soon-to-be financial DPOA and have known and been friends with Ms. Rosenthal for nearly 6 years. She has no family left. No husband or children. Her dogs are ALL SHE HAS LIVED FOR. They are her tribe, her heart, and her soul. They have run out of time at the kennel they have been boarded at, as there is no more room for them, and while our email and Facebook pleas to help fund their stay were mainly successful, it will cost thousands of dollars more to keep boarding them. In light of her situation, and in considering her own physical limitations, April has decided, with a heavy heart, to re-home them.
