Please share your suggestions- The Corporate devoid of compassion: The plight of the employees of the Five Star rated Kingfisher Airlines is well documented and known to all. The lowest of lows was struck when the wife of a ground staff employee committed suicide due to financial burden. Almost a year has passed since that fateful day but the struggles of the employees and the apathy of the company and its owner, Vijay "The King of Good Times" Mallya have just increased. During this period, the company has paid out 5 salaries with the total outstanding of 14 months and its now been 5 months since the last pay-check.Moreover Mallya has always found scapegoats to blame for his failures in the Aviation industry and the employees have been labelled as one of the main reasons for the failings of the Airline. Also, in the last meeting of the employees with VJM, he very astutely channelled them towards the ongoing court battle between the lenders to the airline and its parent company, thus not only tying the fate of the employees to the court proceedings (which are so well known for the "fast pace" they exhibit in our country), but also using them as bait to sway the courts in favour of granting relief to the company based on their supposedly humanitarian motive to pay out the long standing dues to its workers. Everyday the offices in Bombay witness slogan shouting and protests with banners n black bands but they seem to be having no effect on the thick-skinned management who dole out stories of the commitment and effort they are putting in to address the pressing issue of salaries. This is not an attempt to educate you all to the troubles faced by the workforce of this organisation but an approach for ideas and support to help us overcome this situation. With no other jobs available and stress levels running high due to evictions from homes, children being kicked out of school and selling of property and belongings almost all of the employees including the high and mighty Captains are very close to physical and mental collapse. The law, the judiciary and the entire system has failed us. We need a fresh perspective so please hear this desperate plea for help and come forward with suggestions as the fate of 2500 employees hangs on a fine thread.
