Please submit you 1 page or less conversion story for the Ward History! November 1973 I was home as I had a few day’s off after making my runs for Interstate Motor Freight. It was just starting to get dark and we were hungry. Betty said she did not feel like cooking so I told her I would go to Kentucky Fried Chicken and get us a meal. We lived at the house that was located off of Route 422 in Warren Ohio. At the end of the block, located was a Kentucky Fried chicken, ( I checked it out on Goggle Earth, the KFC building is gone but they put up a new one). I told Betty I would walk down and get everyone dinner. I order a bucket of chicken after a short wait for the customer ahead of me. I quickly returned and as I was walking towards our house I saw there were two men on the porch at the door. Betty had the door cracked open and was talking to them. I observed they had on suits so I figured they were insurance sales men and vowed to myself that I would get rid of then because I could just taste that mouth watering chicken. I came up the 3 stairs behind them and looked at Betty and she said to me and them, this is my husband, Ken these guys are from a church and they wanted to talk to us about the Bible. Well I instantly thought, sure I will be glad to discuss the Bible and show then the errors of their ways. I said to them would you guys like to come in and share our meal and we could talk. They introduced themselves as Elder Dixon and Elder Mitchell. They declined the dinner invite but asked if they could return in a few days to which I replied in the affirmative and we made an appointment. I explained to them that my job required me to be gone several days at a time and we made the time for my next days off. After they left Betty and I had a short discussion concerning these young men and we both agreed they were nice and it would be interesting to see what they had to say. Of course I was sure I would be able to show them what they did not understand about the Bible. At the appointed time they showed up on schedule. They spoke to us and I listened. I could find no fault in their teaching. Questions were answered quickly and politely with no anger or rebuff. Then I started asking the hard questions. Questions to which I had no real answers from men much older than I . At the time I was about 25 nd hear comes youngsters who had all these answers. Now that was impressive to me. We went through the lessons and soon I was a member a member teaching others, We were baptized on Thanksgiving day. The church saved my life and more importantly my soul. The following Sunday we attend Church and they announced our baptism. Hen the bishop asked if I would say a few words. I had never spoken in public before so I spoke my feelings and the best way I described my thoughts was I felt like one of leaves that were blowing and being tossed about outside that Fall day and I had the spirit help me to land on the precise patch of land the Lord wanted me to no longer lost and wondering.
