Please take a few minutes to read the following. These rules are being put in place to ensure that your training, safety and well being remain top priority. A copy will be posted at the gym as well. Cutting Edge Fitness House Rules Check your ego at the door. Trust me no one cares how big or how strong you are, what you’re wearing or what your chosen profession is. When you enter Cutting Edge Fitness we are all like minded individuals with one common goal, to be better than the day before. Clean up. Put away your toys. Clean up your sweat, blood and any other bodily fluids you lose. Please don’t spit on our floor, ever. Pick up your used tape, band-aids, water bottles, towels and sweaty clothes. Pack it in, pack it out, as they say. Please close the windows at the end of the night. For those that use chalk, keep it in the bucket. Put away all the equipment you used back where it belongs. Please do not put the bumper plates against a heater, they are made of RUBBER. Stack the boxes neatly, put the bars in the corner (we are having a rack made for the bars), stack the plates in order, hang up your jump ropes, spray the blue mats and wipe them down. Respect our equipment. Drop as a last resort. Put things down gently. Dropping weight should be a necessity, not a convenience. Bumpers are designed for emergency dropping, not dropping every rep of Fran. ALWAYS keep your weight under control. NEVER drop an empty barbell. NEVER drop a kettlebell or dumbbell. The big medicine balls are NOT for slamming. Our equipment was expensive, and the more we have to replace it, the more we’re going to have to charge you. Bring things to our attention. If you notice that equipment is broken, lights are out, there’s no toilet paper, bring it to our attention so we can do something about it. Try hard. Effort earns respect. Work hard. Don’t drag people down with a bad attitude. Be optimistic, have fun and push yourself and those around you to do better. No energy vampires allowed. Don’t be afraid to push the limits. The only way to get stronger is to increase the load. Always strive to go a little heavier and a little faster (while using proper technique, and keeping safety first in mind at all times). Never say, “I can’t.” When you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done. Push your limits. Don’t cheat. Be honest with everyone else, and be honest with yourself. You know what full range of motion is, so there’s no excuse for shoddy reps. If an instructor points out that you’re doing something wrong, listen to them. The instructor is watching you work out and has a much better perspective on what you’re doing than you do. Some days will be better than others, so appreciate the good days and recognize the not so good days. Pay attention to your surroundings. We all are aware that space is limited and the class size can be quite large so often there is little or no margin for error. I understand that these workouts can be grueling and that we get tired, but please pay attention to what is going on. We’ve had a few close calls with people getting hit with kettle bells, barbells and the worst is jumping over the battle ropes when they are in use. The person performing the exercise is at much at risk of being injured as the person who invades their space. BE CAREFUL AND ATTENTIVE. Come to class. For newbies, make sure you’re staying consistent. For old hands, don’t start thinking that it’s okay to just do your own thing whenever you want to. There’s a myriad of reasons we have class — for starters, you’re less likely to bias yourself towards the things you’re good at; you’ll get some competition; and no matter how experienced you are, you still need coaching and you can still stand to work on the basics. If you have extra things you’re working on, there are times right after class to work on them, provided they do not interfere with the next session. The gym is not open except during the times posted on the schedule, but this is something that we are looking at doing in the future. Take ownership. Be responsible and respectful and take pride in your gym. There is absolutely no need for unnecessary cursing, swearing or inappropriate comments made in the gym or on our facebook page. The occasional F bomb dropped following a hard session is to be expected but there is no need for inappropriate language at any other time. I want to ensure that this a positive training environment and that everyone feels respected. We have younger members that train here and others that bring their children here(which is something that I welcome and want to continue). We do not play music with excessive swearing ever. Don’t let others get away with things that are bad for them or bad for the gym. Remind people to take their clothes with them and pick up their water bottles. If you see someone doing something that you’re pretty sure will hurt them, tell them to cut it out. We don’t care who it is — if me, Kevin, or Deano are deadlifting with a rounded back, you can call us out! Safety first! We have a great community here at Cutting Edge Fitness. We have accomplished some great things in a short time and we’re only going to continue to get better. I want you to feel as though the gym is yours, take pride in it, take pride in your training and take pride in your fellow members. I am very proud of each and everyone of you and truly appreciate your commitment and business.
