Please/thank you... Can anybody tell me what season is best to prune my Chocolate Mimosa Tree? I planted it 2 years ago. To protect the trunk from getting sunburned I havent pruned it with the exception of 1 branch and rubbing off any little sprigs that popped up below the main fork. Can anybody offer safe winterizing ideas for my Chocolate Mimosa Tree? It has endured 2 winters now, but it was touch n go. On the branches I wrapped Christmas lights (the older kind that put out a little warmth not the LED kind) on a dusk/dawn timer and put a plant blanket over the top of it. Im wondering if I should invest in a little outdoor space heater placing it underneath the canopy that would be on a timer and obviously not turned on should it rain and set it up off of the ground so when the irrigation waters. Ive heard that when freezing temps are expected you should water the tree out to the dripline/end of branches. Thats supposed to hold the heat somehow??
