Poem for Palestine by ANITA MASON The Israeli came down like the wolf on the fold, And his cohorts were gleaming in olive and gold; And the glint of their guns was like stars on the sea, When the blue wave rolls nightly on deep Galilee. Like the leaves of the forest when summer is green That host with their banners at sunset were seen; Like the leaves of the forest when autumn hath blown That army next morning lay scattered and strown. For the Angel of Life spread his wings on the blast And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed; And the IDF soldiers all stumbled and fell, And prayed for forgiveness, or didn’t, just fell. And there lay the drone with its canopy wide, All crumpled the wings that had borne up its pride, And the fire of its falling had blackened the soil Where the engine lay sunk in a puddle of oil. And there lay the bulldozer crushed like a toy In the hand of a small Palestinian boy, And the settlements silent, the flags all unflown, The rifles unlifted, the bugles unblown. And the Zealots for Zion are loud in their wail And the padlocks are smashed in the G4S jail, And the might of the Tyrant, unsmote by the sword, Hath melted like snow in the glance of the Lord.
