#PointsforReflection #ASEANYouth #SoftSkills Having gone through about hundreds of CVs of ASEAN youth for the past years, I realised how young people are becoming more aware that a degree and internship are simply not enough. Nowadays, our CVs have evolved into an accounting of international networks, and how we have gotten ahead of real life at a rather young age. Community projects and exchange programmes are the new in things. We have started documenting NGOs we have volunteered for and countries traveled to for this and that conference. The question is - while everybody is discovering this global youth market, what sets one apart? In this region, the youth network is expanding quite rapidly - just search how many FB pages and programmes are out there. However, even if we meet all sorts of people from this and that country, there is still a need for the same old soft skills those before us have invested on. Most of the time, these things are only tested during interviews or trial periods. To name a few: - Its still QUALITY not quantity - the depth of issues and networks. How much do you actually know and what you can do about it? - Since young people are now empowered to speak up, expressing yourself is one thing, but defending your idea is another. Writing effectively and speaking in public are very crucial. - Social media is not as simple as posting on your personal page anymore. There are too many players; one must learn to stand out. In the field of development work, how can we use these all tech tools to connect the communities interests to stakeholders? Tagging other ASEAN youth advocates on FB! What do you think? :)
