Police Arrest One of Two Suspects in Commercial Break Worcester, MA (January, 16, 2014) - On Thursday, January 16, 2014, Worcester Police responded to the BP Gas Station for a commercial alarm. Arriving police noticed that the front garage door was smashed out. Officers observed several packs of cigarettes on the ground that was inside and outside the business. Officers at the scene spoke with witnesses. The witnesses informed the officers that two men were seen walking around the parking lot of the business. The men were wearing dark colored jackets with hoods and lighter colored jeans. The men were seen walking north on Park Avenue carrying plastic bags. The owner of the station arrived at the scene and searched the building with the officers. It appeared that the suspects took a large quantity of cigarettes. Police searched the area for the suspects and discovered a male under the bridge at Beaver Street at University Park. This male fit the description that was given by the witness. The male was discovered in knee high water. The male was also holding a plastic bag. Officers could see several packs of cigarettes floating out of the bag and traveling down the river. The male was ordered out of the water. The male complied with the officers orders. As the suspect exited the water he let go of the plastic bag and it floated down river. Once the male was out of the water he was searched. Police discovered several more packs of cigarettes on the suspect. A witness was transported to the male suspect’s location. The suspect was identified as one of the males at the scene of the break. The suspect was identified as Bruce Lahair, 38-years-old of 868 West Boylston Street, Worcester. Mr. Lahair was charged with breaking and Entering in the Nighttime with the Intent to Commit a felony, larceny Over the Value of $250.00 and Malicious Destruction of Property Valued over $250.00. Mr. Lahair will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
