Police: Shooting on AC Transit bus in East Oakland gang-related By Harry Harris Oakland Tribune POSTED: 10/09/201303:53:39 PM PDT UPDATED: 10/09/2013 03:53:39PM PDT OAKLAND -- The shooting of an 18-year-old high school student Tuesday afternoon on board an AC Transit bus in East Oakland was gang-related, police said Wednesday. The victim, whose name was not released, was wounded in an arm and a leg but will recover, police said. No one else was hurt and the gunman is being sought. Officer Doug Keely said police have information the gunman is a gang member but it was not clear why he shot the student. The shooting happened about 1:27 p.m. on board a bus in the 8800 block of Fontaine Street. The 18-year-old, who attends a high school in the area, had just gotten on board with more than a dozen other riders a few minutes before he was shot by the suspect, who was already on the bus. The driver stopped the bus and the gunman, victim and other passengers got out with the gunman fleeing on foot. A passer-by picked up the victim and began driving him to a hospital. But the vehicle driver stopped in the 3100 block of 73rd Avenue and waved down some police officers. An ambulance then took the victim to the hospital. Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the gunman. anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or a tip line at 510-773-2805.
