Police and Alameda County Sheriff’s officers raided a large sideshow event Wednesday on Maritime Street in Oakland. More than 150 vehicles were trapped when law enforcement blocked both ends of the street, preventing vehicles from escaping. Almost everyone participating in the event was caught California Highway Patrol officers said they broke up an illegal “sideshow” in which more than 150 cars blocked roads at the Port of Oakland, shielding drivers who sped and spun their vehicles. Gunfire was reported during the incident but no one was wounded, a CHP spokesman said. Highway Patrol officers were in Oakland Wednesday night to assist police at downtown protests over the police killing of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Mo., when they learned of the unrelated sideshow at the port, said Officer Daniel Hill.
