Police and technicians from Halfords Autocentres will be working together next week as part of a crime prevention initiative to tackle the theft of vehicle registration plates. On Wednesday 17 July, officers and mechanics from Halfords will be at Weston Favell Shopping Centre in Northampton and Halfords in Daventry between 10am and 4pm. Drivers will be able to get tamper-proof screws fitted to their car registration plates as well as a vehicle safety check – all free of charge. The events are part of Operation Guardian, the Force’s countywide operation to reduce burglary and vehicle crime. They aim to promote road safety and prevent the theft of vehicle registration plates, which are often used in criminal activity. Crime Prevention Manager, Paul Golley, said: “Working in partnership with Halfords at these events gives us a great opportunity to tackle the problem of number plate thefts, potentially saving motorists money and a lot of inconvenience, while at the same time offering them a free and convenient vehicle safety check. "We continue to carry out operations across the county to catch offenders but we are keen to provide ways to help prevent people becoming a victim of vehicle crime.” For more information on keeping your vehicle safe and secure visit: halfordsautocentres and northants.police.uk/crimeprevention.
