Police are continuing their investigations following the death of a man in Moruya on Thursday. About 6pm (19 June 2014), officers were called to a unit in Evans Street following reports a man had died. Police from the Far South Coast Local Area Command arrived to find the body of a 41-year-old man. They established a crime scene which was examined by specialist forensic officers. Officers were told the deceased man had been assaulted at the location the previous day (Wednesday 18 June 2014). It’s alleged a 40-year-old man assaulted him and his 60-year-old male housemate at the unit before leaving. As a result of inquiries, a 40-year-old man was arrested about 4.30pm yesterday at a Moruya address. He was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The man appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court today and was refused bail, to re-appear there on Monday (23 June 2014). A post mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of the man’s death. Further charges may be considered pending the outcome of the post mortem. Investigations are ongoing and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
