Police are investigating after two men were allegedly shot in a home near Newcastle early this morning. About 2.20am (Sunday 27 July 2014), emergency services were called to a home on Cole Street, Jesmond, after reports of a shooting. On arrival, officers from Newcastle Local Area Command found two men, aged 21 and 30, had been shot. They were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. The younger man is in a critical condition and the older man is believed to be stable. Police patrolled the surrounding area and arrested a man on Chilcott Street, Lambton. He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and is currently assisting with inquiries. An investigation has commenced. A crime scene has been established and will be examined by specialist forensic officers.
