Police have now stopped seven trucks so far this month for excessive speed on our state’s major highways after a further two trucks were detected speeding. About 10.50pm yesterday (Thursday 12 September 2013), officers stopped a heavy vehicle travelling south on the Hume Highway, Jugiong. The truck was allegedly detected travelling at 125kph, with heavy vehicles limited to 100kph speeds. The heavy vehicle was grounded awaiting an inspection while the 40-year-old male driver was issued an infringement for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20kph and failing to total work/rest hours at completion of work. Meanwhile, about 2pm on Wednesday (11 September 2013), Holbrook Highway Patrol were patrolling Tumbarumba when they stopped a heavy vehicle on Albury Street for a compliance inspection. An inspection of the vehicle found the speed limiter to be non-compliant. The 44-year-old male driver was issued an infringement for vehicle not speed limiter compliant. Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s, Superintendent Stuart Smith, said police would continue to target these operators who endangered others. “Police will continue to crack down on these rogue drivers and operators to ensure we keep the roads safe. “Heavy vehicle speeding will not be tolerated and highway patrol will continue to stop these vehicles to ensure their compliance,” Superintendent Smith said.
