Police in Burundi say three activists from the governing CNDD-FDD party have been shot dead in the eastern town of Gisuru, near the border with Tanzania. They say five men dressed in army uniform on Sunday burst into a bar and tied up the activists before killing them. They then went to the CNDD-FDD office and burned the party flag. A spokesman for the party said those responsible probably belonged to what he described as the extremist fringe of the opposition who wanted to sabotage elections due later this year.
