Police in Maun have detained a UB lecturer after he allegedly attempted to bribe a journalist not to publish a story implicating him in an exam fraud. The 50 year-old lecturer from Cameroon, Mathews Buteh Chenvi works part time at the UB’s Centre for Continuing Education. Daniel Chida, a reporter with the Voice newspaper, told Gabz Fm news that he was working on a story that implicated Chenvi in some examination scandal in the course that he lectured. Chida said Chenvi confirmed that he indeed committed some examination fraud and wanted Chida not to write the story as it would destroy his career and might lead to his deportation. Chida claims he was offered 5000 Pula in exchange for the story not being published. He says he then alerted the Police who arrested the duo as the transaction was being made. Maun Police station commander Kenanao Badumetse says Chevi will appear before the magistrates court soon.
