Police warn Welsh football fans to avoid pitch invasions ahead of European qualifiers Police have warned Welsh football fans that they risk hefty penalties and a ban from attending football matches if they invade the pitch during the upcoming European qualifiers. Wales’ win over Andorra in September was marred by several invaders who run onto the pitch shortly after Gareth Bale scored the winning goal. Jonathan Williams, 25, from Aberdare broke a number of advertising signs whilst trying to clamber onto the pitch. Williams has today been issued with a four year football banning order as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident. PC Christian Evans said: “I hope the banning order issued today sends out a clear message that similar behavior will not be tolerated at matches. “Whenever there is evidence of football-related disorder or violence we will always pursue those responsible to ensure appropriate action is taken. The overwhelming majority of Welsh fans are well-behaved and passionate about their team and their behavior both at home and away games is usually excellent. “The expectation is for the atmosphere at these games to be family-friendly and we work closely with the Football Association of Wales to keep the troublemakers away.
