Political hacks like the WAs ERA chairman who think they can do a report and no-one will check the facts he is sadly mistaken. His sole argument that total deregulation of the industry will bring decreased fares , better conditions for drivers and shorter waiting times. In his final report he relied on outdated figures from NZ and Ireland, let us check the facts 1/ NZ Taxi fares are now some of the highest in world 2/ Wait times have increased in every jurisdiction where reform has been undertaken 3/ Irish taxi fares have increased to the point that major magazines are telling their subscribers to avoid Ireland. 4/ Deregulation does not help the driver it causes more hardship to a already tough job. The increase of suicides in every jurisdiction that this type of reform has been tried goes to show it has the opposite effect. 5/ Releasing more plates to increase competition has bought nothing more than bankruptcy for the small operator and increased plates for the large operator who start their monopoly/duopoly all over again. 6/ The industry needs reforms but not these reforms.NO!!!!
