Politics: From the PNG solution to McHales Navy I think both sides should take a cold shower on the asylum seeker issue. It is not a national emergency but a national shame. Has nobody considered investing the huge expense of Manus island, Nauru, the Navy etc into processing at the source - Indonesia? At the source where asylum seekers can see a light at the end of the tunnel, a light that will keep them off unsafe boats while they wait, not too long, for a decision on their status. A light that will provide incentive to keep their papers safe, papers that will make the job of processing claims much easier. And if asylum seekers are after a better life, prosperity (that we all seek) and that makes them economic refugees as well - good on them for having their sights on higher achievements. It is not a crime.
