Poll body chair Brillantes ready to retire in 2015 BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, January 24(PIA) – Commission on Elections(COMELEC) chairman Sixto Brillantes yesterday said he is bound to retire in February 2015 with hopes that his snall legacies will be continued by his successor. Speaking to reporters after breakfast at the Breads and Bites Food Center in this town, he said he will spend some time of this year in visiting COMELEC offices in the country to meet with his men in the field. Brillantes’ visit to Cagayan Valley covered Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Isabela and Cagayan province. “ We have no elections this year so we have more time to visit our men in the provinces, regions and cities. I have already solved several issues at the central office and now, I want to know the issues and problems in the field,” Brillantes said. He said that most of his time this year will be devoted to his administrative functions to hear grievance and problems in the field. “ I will also do courtesy call to our governors but this is not political. This is only for courtesy purposes for them being the leaders in the areas that we will be visiting,” Brillantes said. Bound to retire in February 2015, he said he hopes that his successor will continue his small legacies in the commission. “I am not recommending anybody but I hope killala ko sana so that I can personally talk to him regarding the continuance of what I have started,” Brillantes said. He said that at present, the COMELEC is implementing the reshuffling of personnel and cleansing of its central office. “We are doing this to rid our commission of unworthy employees and officials,” Brillantes said. The COMELEC he added is also focusing its effort on the issuance of voters’ identification cards in preparation for the 2016 automated national elections.
