Pop Warner Parents, I had a Pop Warner coach come to my door last - TopicsExpress

Pop Warner Parents, I had a Pop Warner coach come to my door last week telling me my son practiced with his team (without my knowledge) and was really impressed with his speed, moves and hands. He wanted him on his 95lbs. team as a Wide Receiver. My son told the coach that I would not allow him to play any sports because he received a “D” in Language Arts as a final grade. The coach said to me, Mr. Raulerson ONE “D” isnt all that bad. I ended the conversation by escorting my son into my house shutting the door behind me. I Goggled “Pop Warner Greater Miami” and found this: Pop Warner is the only national youth sports program which requires its participants to maintain a level of academic achievement in order to participate. Section 5: While the individual associations provide the coaches and equipment necessary to field its teams, it is the function of the League to, among other duties; Honor all local student athletes with a minimum GPA of 96 at an annual scholastic banquet and ensure their participation in regional and national scholastic honors events. I’m not sure what a GPA of 96 is and what is the level of academic achievement in order for our children to be participants? My son wants to play sports and I want him to play, but he must qualify first academically. That’s the message I’m teaching him. I believe it’s a lifesaving message. I pray parents you will believe in this message to be lifesaving for your boys and girls. C’s and D’s arent qualifiers in my house.
