Portrait of a dead artist walking. Gerry Pisarzowski came by to shoot my portrait in my writing studio in Mirvish Village. He is shooting photos in Markham Street’s studios, small stores, workshops, restaurants and kitchens as Honest Eds is coming to its final close in December 2016 to be replaced by... you guessed it, a condo. Mirvish Village on Markham Street and its artists, artisans and craftspeople, small merchants, bookdealers and restauranteurs will be next to go. To be replaced by... yes, more condos or places for condo zombies to shop and drink their lattes: some kind of corporate fake theme park tribute to what Mirvish Village was once, before they themselves destroyed it in the name of “added value real-estate.” Ed Mirvish was about sustainable profitability—making an ‘honest’ buck and paying it forward—not the “maximized profitability” greed that drives the world of monotone glass and aluminium profitability coming to kill the Annex forever.
