Post 3. ........continuted from yesterday: A Day In London Last night I was so sore! I havent been anywhere near this sore since we took David, Sam and the boys to Disney three months after I had my first stent put in. I remember throwing myself onto the bed the first night we got in from the Magic Kingdom, then realizing I couldnt get up because my legs wouldnt hold my weight. I am glad I brought my back brace or Id be in big trouble today. I feel great this morning, Nate and I both slept until 10 am. Yesterday morning we walked over to the London Eye. It was amazing. It takes 30 minutes for one revolution, during which I got lots of great pictures. (along with a lot of other folks also taking pics as well.) In the park along the Thames path were street performers dressed and painted, reminding me of the Tree Lady in the Animal Kingdom, but with the London Theme. Sitting on a golden throne was a man spray painted gold, skin and all, wearing all gold, including a golden kings hat. I sat in the chair next to him and wore the golden queens hat. Nate got a picture. There was also a table covered with a large heavy material, upon which sat a medium-sized animal carrier. Filling the inside the animal carrier was a mans head (his body being under the table, his head coming up through a hole in the bottom of the carrier) and his face was painted white with black spots, making him resemble one of the 100 Dalmations. . Little kids surrounded him talking to him and he was talking back, but not looking real happy. The kids didnt seem to mind that. They were squealing with delight. I could only wonder what he tells people when they ask him So.......what do you do for a living? It seemed to me that all the school children come here for their lunches, there were so many groups of the cutest little kids youve ever seen. I took a pic of some little girls sitting on a bench. They noticed me and all giggled and waved so I took another pic and got in trouble with the teacher. Jayne, Sally? Have I or have I not always gotten in trouble with teachers? Whats that about? But I do understand when I think about it. I wouldnt want some stranger taking pics of my kids or grandkids without my permission. We walked over to Waterloo Station, I got pics of the trains and we ate lunch at a very nice Pub in the station. One of my main interests in photography is people. There are so many fascinating characters walking around and you can see so much in their eyes. So much sadness, wonder, desperation, amusement, anger, hopelessness, innocence and innocence lost. But you cant just walk up to the 90-year old man who is walking hunched over, wearing a bright turquoise beret, his face creased with his lifes experiences and ask to take his picture. Or the young girl who looks like she may be searching for herself the way shes dressed, or the child who is staring at you from his stroller but wont smile for you, instead looks away. What are they all thinking? Where are they going? Where will they sleep tonight? You know those lights that miners wear on their heads so they can see in the dark while using their hands? I would like a camera like that, very small, like a headband with a cord going down my sleeve with a push button so I can look into one of these faces and snap their picture. But then again, that would be invasion of privacy so I dont think I would. But I wish I could. From the train station we took a cab to British Museum. We saw artifacts from Ur, Abrahams hometown. The stuff was older than Abraham! I saw plenty of Ur jewelry and pottery. We saw mummies from Egypt, and a real dried-up Egyptian man who was perfectly preserved after being buried in the sand with his stuff. He still had his hair! We saw huge Assyrian friezes, and a Greek funeral temple, and stone statues of the Pharaohs, and Greeks without heads, and Romans without bodies, and bodies without clothes. Hard to believe that some of these things were already thousands of years old when Christ walked the earth! It gave me chills. And they let you take pictures! Across the street from the Museum was the Museum Pub. Nate figured it was part of the Museum experience so in we went. t was very enjoyable. We played Nines and had a pint. We then walked Highholborn Street to St. Andrews where they were preparing for a Sung Eucharist. I really, really wanted to stay for the service, so we went in, sat down and watched the men setting up, lighting candles, welcoming us, they were all very nice. It was lovely inside and so peaceful. However, Nate looked at the service bulletin and it looked like a rather long service so we quietly left before anyone else arrived. Another thing that I wanted to get pics of is the amazing architecture here. The old buildings carry so much history, so much charm. You just want to absorb it all but its too much. But I did take a lot of pics. I must say here that my expectations are very low on the amount of pictures that will actually come out well. Most were taken while holding onto Nates hand, snapping with my right hand as we walked. But I did wander off here and there and I think I did get some really good shots. I believe a good amount of them will end up in my computer trash though. We walked to Black Friar Station, the Tube was closed because of the strike so we went to a Pub for dinner. Are you sensing a pattern here? I am. When we finished dinner we decided to walk the bridge across the Thames to our flat. Nate saw a sign that said the walking part of the bridge was closed off so we looked for a cab. It was not for a shortage of Taxis that we couldnt catch one. Between the Tube strike and the fact that it was rush hour every single taxi was taken. We finally found an empty one but the poor driver was very weary and on his way home. We walked towards St. Pauls and about twenty minutes later finally found one. Today Nate needs to get some work done so I may wander down to London Bridge, and later we will go to Westminster to see Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. Hope you are all sleeping well. It is now almost noon here, and some of you are just waking up. Well........so did we. haha Tomorrow will be a full day. Stay tuned! Love, Allie
