Post-Hurricane Update from La Paz, Mexico: We are all - TopicsExpress

Post-Hurricane Update from La Paz, Mexico: We are all SAFE...but... Hurricane Odile goes into the record books as the strongest tropical cyclone in modern recordkeeping on Mexicos Baja California peninsula and hit just before midnight on Sep. 14th. Cabo San Lucas on the southern most tip took the direct face-on impact with winds up to 125 mph (Category 3-4), lots of rain and severe damage. Here in La Paz we also experienced massive flooding, widespread power outages (for 5 days!!), damaged buildings, torn palm trees and crashed light signals and power lines... The situation has been calm and peaceful here in La Paz and people have done an amazing job on getting everything back in order - but only two hours south of here (in Cabo) things went crazy...looters ransacked convenience stores (often done by police...talk about corruption!!) and the navy was called in and even shoot a few people to stop the State Of Emergency... All celebrations for the Mexican Independence Day (eve of Sep. 15 and on 16th Sep.) was cancelled officially. Several people have lost their lives in Cabo but unfortunately also here in La Paz...a few bodies have been recovered in the bay behind our house but more people are sadly still missing. The Marine is searching daily and I even joined the search on the wrecked boats from a SUP. Tonight a new hurricane was about to hit....but we only got rain and winds...so all good for now....stay safe and send your love and prayers to the families and friends of the people who did not make it through the night!
