Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Water Resources The Dept. of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury is offering a one-year, fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Water and Land Resources Modelling with a specific focus on the Mekong region in Southeast Asia. Candidates are expected to have completed a PhD degree in an appropriate discipline, and have published in international journals. Candidates should have expertise in hydrological and hydraulic modelling (knowledge of SWAT is an advantage), ArcGIS, landuse change, sediment and nutrient transport, and a strong interest in international development issues, ecological impacts, and payments for ecosystem services. A good understanding of hydro-dam operations, erosion, river processes, and climate change is also expected. Good verbal and written communication skills in English are essential. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary project team studying anthropogenic-induced changes in one of the Mekong Rivers most critical tributary systems, the Sesan, Srepok, and Sekong basin (3S). Although the position is based in New Zealand, the successful candidate should be willing and available to travel to the Mekong region for data gathering, stakeholder meetings, modelling demonstrations, and partner collaborations. Local knowledge or work experience in one or more countries forming the 3S basin (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam) will be considered an advantage.
