(Posted: 29 September 2014) ** A round-up of whats happened so far this year ** * Deeping * February saw us back at Deeping for another sell-out concert. The raffle raised £400 for the Van Geest Unit at Stamford Hospital, which cared for Gordon our dear departed drummer, who would have been celebrating a special birthday that day. This was James last concert with us and we wish him well with his other commitments. However, sat in the audience was Andrew, who played with the band many, many years ago. By chance he still had his trumpet and was free on Thursday nights -- welcome back, Andrew! * Reliving the Blitz at Kings Cliffe * In June we played to a packed house at Kings Cliffe and what a fun night that was! As you might have already gathered, we usually play a variety of music at our concerts, old and new, things you might know and things to get you thinking, but now JBs task was to sort a programme for which the original copyright was before 1945, even though our arrangements might not be of that era. He was quite surprised to find that almost a third of our pad fitted the bill. The Memorial Hall was decked out in bunting and posters from WWII and the Blitz Dancers, dressed in 40s gear, got people up on to the dance floor with some fab moves. Event organiser Garry tells us that the night raised £740 for charity, being shared between The Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes. We also add our thanks for the two nurses who helped with our medical emergency as we were closing the concert (a bit earlier than expected!). * Sapcote V: the return of the big band (again) * Yes, our fifth visit to Sapcote way across the border and almost across the next! Just in case you had forgotten, the band has been celebrating its 30th anniversary and we thought it would be nice to present JB with something to mark the occasion. You can see Les making the presentation here (with amusing consequences -- sorry, Les!): youtube/watch?v=ftV68aGZHpw&feature=youtu.be -- and well done John H for holding the camera so still throughout! The raffle fund of £100 was donated to Marie Curie. * Lined up, ready for departure * We wish Joe-1 and Stephen all the best at uni and welcome John H on guitar (whos been with us for a few months now) and Rob on trumpet, who originally only came along to help one night a few weeks ago. Im also handing over the admin of the Fanbook over to Dan whos got more idea of whats going on…in the Peterborough area. * The band has entered the building * No doubt youd have already seen the posters but just in case you hadnt, the band has a new project for the next few months. Were doing a season of concerts on the first Thursday of the month at the Quality Hotel in Thorpe Meadow, Peterborough. Details are posted elsewhere so we look forward to seeing you there and remember to tell all your friends! Take it away, Dan!
