Posted by Pastor Steve Wiseman Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (1 Thess. 5:21) To prove things is to examine them very carefully. Believers are told here to examine all things carefully. The things include actions, conversations, beliefs, opinions, decisions, circumstances, etc. in all aspects of our life and in all of our interactions with others. That means we are not to ignorantly, carelessly, conveniently for selfish reasons or otherwise disregard the mandatory obligation to diligently evaluate all things all the time. Upon examination of all things, we are to take firm hold of the things which are good - that is, whats good in Gods view. To do this, all things must be judged according to Gods Word. Too many Christians go about their lives without noticing whats going on around them, evaluating only the things that are pertinent to their own personal lives. Are you exercising your faith by approving the things that are good and rebuking the things that are not? Remember Gods expectation stated in Eph. 5:10 & 15: Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord....See, then, that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise.
