Posted by Vickie Sharpei : I was asked to forward a note of introduction by Vince Jura, a pet detective living in Fresno. He is able to consult on the successful recovery of Benson. His letter of introduction goes beyond providing a general description of his services and offers a brief personal history to make it easier to get to know him. He was hoping to meet with volunteers this past weekend but got held up unavoidably on existing cases. He continues to want to meet with volunteers in person and will be open to scheduling that as soon as it can be arranged. His phone number is included in his narrative below. Greetings everyone; I feel that this is the best way to accomplish an initial introduction of myself to all of you wonderful volunteers. You have undoubtedly worked many long and heavy on the heart hours and days trying to keep track of this guy and my hat is off to each and every one of you.. This and the other Find Benson type of web / face book pages also seems to be appropriate because everyone here ultimately has find Benson as a common goal, myself included. My name is Vincent Jura or Vinnie. I am a California licensed private investigator and owner of Jura Consultation and Investigative Services. I also own / operate two other related business entities named Outer Limits UAS Consultation and Fetchem Missing Pet Recovery Services . Outer Limits UAS Consultation is about three years old and I suppose you could call it the technical arm of my business. The UAS part stands for Unmanned Aerial Systems which you may be familiar with as UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) or Drones. I own and built three of these flying robots and sometimes use them on cases, if appropriate. I also advise and consult persons on choosing the proper UAV platform to setup and use in their particular occupational situation. From farming operations to filming active extreme sports to pipeline inspection it appears that UAVs are here to stay as they can be a very powerful tool. Fetchem Missing Pet Recovery Services is my third related entity and is the reason I am introducing myself on Bensons page. This business was in the making for about ten years before it began to evolve into a profit oriented business and most recently (through Fetchem) Missing Pet Recovery has occupied about 90 percent of my active cases . I have never advertised my PI services, nor do I intend to do so as I have a steady flow of engagements simply originating from past clients word of mouth highly commending my investigation skill sets and supporting my reputation as a tireless, quiet, yet aggressive PI. I know that some of you have had questions and/ or concerns about my experience in managing situations such as the Benson case as not too much information exists out there on me. Well, that is the way I like it. I do not desire publicity nor do I need the ego inflation of being in the limelight. I can be much more effective working quietly from the outside inward , can focus on a case more rapidly and choose logical avenues of case direction more appropriately if I dont have to worry about a news helicopter flying overhead and complicating what may have been a simple fetchem into a cluster###@8.* I am not afraid or nervous in any way of the news media. I appreciate that they also have a job to do and in many cases can be a very effective tool for us. Lets just leave it as, Just so long as the media appreciates what we are doing and does not complicate our efforts by either inappropriate, ill timed or inaccurate news releases, they are welcomed. NOTE; This is why the law enforcement community utilizes PIOs or Press Information Officers as this is how they control the timing, volume and content of what is released--oftentimes for tactical reasons. Why hire a Pet Detective? Lets face it, the act of attempting to locate and capture Benson is an investigation. PERIOD While engaged in this process one would be taking statements from witnesses, making inquiries to locate other potential witnesses, following up and either proving or disproving the veracity of statements. They would be following clues, sightings and they would be creating and following logical pre-planned and planned processes. They would also, most likely be recipients to hot leads or dynamic information that could, and probably would, change the direction or focus in the case. Come to think of it, did anyone put out wanted posters? Of course they did. Does all of this sound familiar? You are virtually paralleling a course of action that a detective would be taking while conducting a criminal investigation. The only difference I have noted is that police departments, by the nature of their military like command structure are more rigid in defining who does what and when they do it as in , Take that hill. Whereas groups of volunteer civilians sometimes do not necessarily have clearly defined duties and protocols in place. They sometimes have duplication of efforts and end up working against one another, by no fault of their own, I might add. My experience in working on cases such as Bensons? I do not like to toot my own horn, I never have but in this case I will make one and only one exception because of the efforts and true concern of all of you who volunteer . I have been a very high level investigator for nearly 40 years, specifically 36 years. I have been lauded by prosecutors as an incredibly astute investigator who Can see things others do not see. I have very handy people skills that are readily adjusted from the lowest level of street person up to a prim and proper socialite. I have developed these skills from many years of working in undercover roles and observation of people and things and I rely heavily on that old fashion common sense that is not so common now days. You may ask , What does that have to do with looking for a lost dog? First off, I have, since childhood always been nearly obsessed with observing nature and how animals react and interact within nature. I respect nature to the utmost and have always been intrigued by natures uncanny ways of checks and balances and how it all intermeshes flawlessly. I spent all of my childhood on a farm ....working and living on about a 500 acre farm. My dad , who is now 90 farmed his whole life and instilled into me the common sense and an understanding of how nature works and the importance of how even if one does something to alter the smallest of the smallest bugs life direction could roll right to the top of that food chain and effect us as humans. Side Note: At the young age of 10 I began pushing my dad to buy me a fly rod for my birthday. Now this was before the River Runs Through it era and fly-fishing was not really something one heard of people doing unless they wore funny hats and lived in England or something ....but I wanted a fly rod. When I was 13 I finally got it. And , I DID NOT MAKE EVEN ONE CAST WITH IT TILL I WAS 17 years old. Why? Because I was under water. Yes, literally underwater. I spent the next three years under water with a mask and a snorkel watching how fish and aquatic insects interacted with each other in nature. How did the hunter and the hunted co-exist as adversaries yet both needing each other for survival? I learned an incredibly valuable lesson that has served me well throughout life. That lesson was so simple it was almost an art form. Both of the co-existing adversaries had one thing common......both just respected nature and nature took care of the rest. Incidentally, when I came up for air three years later I was an expert trophy trout fly-fisherman that day and for the rest of my life, even now. My point is , I believe as much as a human can grasp this concept, that I know how animals and nature all works together yet apart. Believe me this carries over to everything and every scenario one encounters in life and that just happens to carry over to each and every animal alive today. I am pretty darn good and pretty accurate in predicting a wild or domesticated animals most likely behavioral pattern based upon the particular scenario. I worked dozens of animal related case investigations prior to the latest focus on the pet detective type work. From cattle rustlers cases in the high country of CA Sierra Nevadas to Seattle, WA on a gypsy ring of thieves and con artists who specialized in stealing registered quarter horses to even working through a dog napping case for ransom. The rest of my background ? I graduated from Clovis High School, Clovis CA in 1971. In 1970 I began competitive swimming and water polo at an unheard of late age of 17 and a junior at Clovis HS. I was one of those coaches dream-come-true and was a natural breaststroker. The following year I was given an All American status as I not only handily beat the seasoned swimmers but took first place at the valley swimming championships and was only mere seconds off of a world record in the 100 yard breast stroke. I was planning to attend Humboldt State and major in wildlife management but both the swimming coach and the water polo coach at Long Beach State who were also the Olympics swim and water polo coaches began recruiting me . They were offering full ride scholarships with housing and all, as did BYU and UC San Diego. Unfortunately one of those things happened and because of personal reasons I would have to go to Junior College first. I did that and after two years transferred to a four year institution, CSU Fresno. At CSUF I joined the Air Force ROTC that paid me a monthly stipend ,my tuition and books at Fresno State and I agreed to a seven year commitment as an Air Force Officer and fighter pilot . I jumped all over this as I was likely Vietnam bound anyway due to my second date draft draw and I figured I would rather be screaming by at 1000 MPH shooting missiles everywhere than to be engaged in hand-to-hand combat with someone on the ground. The AFROTC gave me a D-1 deferment from service until graduation. As luck would have it, the war ended and the military asked for volunteers to resign so they could thin the ranks. They offered continued monthly stipend, books and tuition paid for through graduation if one resigned and no military seven year commitment was necessary, I took it. During the summers I was a State Beach lifeguard at Huntington Beach one year and three more at Millerton Lake state park in Fresno. I ended up with my BS degree in 1975 and in 1978 I was hired as a policeman at Clovis PD. 1978-1983 I worked as a patrolman and in 1983 was assigned as the sole undercover narcotics agent, I was on loan to the county narcotics task force and a federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. In 1988 I applied as a Special Agent for the California State Department of Justice Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement and was hired into the LA office. I lived in Seal Beach. In 1991 I transferred to the State Department of Justice, Bureau of Investigation , Fresno Field Office. I worked in many assignments from 1991 until I retired in 20003. From 2003 till now I have been doing private investigations. I would like to address my statistical information of lost pet recoveries. I purposely DO NOT go there for a couple reasons . This is highly manipulated data and is absolutely bogus most of the time for that reason. For example ; Lets just say for the sake of argument I have never looked for a lost dog in my entire life except my own dog once when I found him 10 mins later sleeping under the pool deck. Could I truthfully say that I have 100% recovery ratio? Yes I could. After all I only looked for one dog in my entire life and I found it... no matter how figure it I have 100% results of recovery...LOST 1 and FOUND 1 = 100% Now you might say OK then how about giving us a ratio of how many searches you have done that resulted in recovered animals. Well if lost pet searchers were to be judged on that basis I do not believe that the hard cases , such as Bensons case would be even considered by a pet detective. How ironic would it be if one were to choose a pet detective based upon this ratio. Being a very difficult case I do not believe any pet detective would take this case as their ratio of cases taken to cases recovered could suffer. I have therefore never considered nor calculated this statistic as not only would this require me to define the word recovered but I do not want to be in a position of deciding to take a case dependent upon the likely result of recovery or not. If this were the case I would be stupid if I took anything other than the easy to solve ones. I hope I have answered as many questions as possible and if there are any more please direct them to the phone number below. Finally I would like to offer an extended hand to each and every volunteer who has helped on this case. I value everyones opinions and thoughts on Bensons location and capture. Please share those with me . If you are interested in assisting as a volunteer in my search I have a short questionnaire I would like you to complete. It will contain no personal data but is only an aid I will use to network with volunteers to help located special equipment or other resources that persons may have local availability or access. The questionnaire will also aid me in the area of volunteer teaming to establish preferences for partners to team with other partners. I have set up an exclusive phone number for this case. To obtain a questionnaire or If you have any questions or a desire to offer any suggestions or opinions etc. please call and leave a message. The number is 559-313-3417. Thank You; Vinnie Jura (Fetchem Missing Pet Recovery Services)
