Poverty is the single most potent national grievance we have at present. Corruption, real and perceived, maladministration, mismanagement, government lethargy and private sector resistance to invest in economic growth are factors that deepen poverty. We must not find it appealing to have individual economic success, especially by those who are holding the levers of political power, when the poor are sinking further into the abyss of poverty. Impoverished people are grossly disempowered and prone to be hoodwinked into self destructive actions, at the whims of powerful individuals who sue for nothing else but individual access to power. The ANC has the responsibility to re-establish itself as a mass movement to organize and mobilize the society, especially impoverished community and give them a voice and a powerful say in the strategies to destroy poverty.
